Dr. Jahi Issa is an activist historian specializing in 17 th -20th century African American and American intellectual, social and cultural history and the African Diaspora. He is a pragmatic Pan Africanist and an organic intellectual who is connected to mainstream society.

Jahi Issa was born and reared in St. Louis County (Ferguson), MO. Outside of seminary (Emory University), he received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D.  from HBCUs (Texas Southern University, Southern

University and Howard University). He is a Senior Editor with the Journal of Pan African Studies and a
vocal advocate against Mass Incarceration. 
 

For more than a decade Dr. Issa has taught at several universities in departments of history and Africana
Studies in the United States. Dr. Issa is the author of several manuscripts including the Origin of the Word Amen (2006). His upcoming manuscript entitled ‘Until Africa is Redeemed’ : The UNIA in Louisiana is the first book length sub regional study of the Garvey Movement. Dr. Issa has traveled throughout the world and has made numerous trips to various African countries. He is the former Scholar in Residence at the W.E.B. Dubois Center in Accra, Ghana.
